We have a working farm, and we'd like to share it with other families, for the mutual benefit and enjoyment of everyone who lives here.
We purchased a piece of land that had been homesteaded in the early 1900's, and had only a rough road coming into it. It has been developed over the years into a working farm. In addition to the natural forests, there are now fields, gardens, orchards, equipment and buildings. We put in a driveway, running water, a telephone, and an alternative energy system. We practice agri-forestry and operate a sawmill. We have a flock of laying hens, dairy and beef cattle, and a few pigs and ducks. Over the years, we have gained the expertise and knowledge to manage all of this efficiently.
We have two additional homes. We don't want a landlord / tenant relationship - we would like to rent the home to people who would be enthusiastic and energetic and enjoy small-scale farming. Perhaps someone who has a dream of working with and enjoying the land, but who cannot afford their own place. Or people who think they might enjoy the lifestyle, but aren't ready to make a commitment to it. Or people who would like to learn more about homesteading. Or perhaps a family that would like to take a year off from their regular lives and do something totally different.
We are not offering a job - we are talking about a lifestyle. There may also be opportunities for making money while living on the farm, but these would come from your own initiative.
We live in a peaceful, pristine, natural, and healthy environment. The vegetables, fruit, milk, eggs, and meat we eat all come from our work on the farm. Our children grow wild and free, healthy and strong. We live close to nature. There are many things to enjoy - hiking and biking trails, the lake on hot days, and special places to explore and take picnics to.
